The Activity Restriction (Time Spent) plugin allows you to open or lock access to course activities based on Learner time thresholds.

The plugin uses the Time Spent Learning records in combination with a "must" or a "must not" statement:

Statement
Result
Student must match the following: 2 hours and 30 minutesBefore an activity can be unlocked, the student must spend 2 hours and 30 minutes in the course/current activity.
Student must not match the following: 2 hours and 30 minutesOnce the student has spent 2 hours and 30 minutes in the course/activity, the activity will become locked from access.

To restrict an actvity based on time spent, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the course to which you wish to add restrictions.
  2. From the Administration block, select Turn Editing On.
  3. Identify the course activity you wish to restrict, and click Edit > Edit Settings:

  4. On the Edit Settings page, scroll down to Restrict access and expand the section.
  5. Click the Add restriction button:

  6. From the Add restriction dialog box, click the Time required button:

  7. A set of requirements now appear in the Restrict access section:

  8. Fill out the requirements to the following specifications:
    •  From the Dropdown list, select either Must or Must Not
      • Select Must to create a restriction in which the activity becomes available after a minimum amount of time has been spent.
      • Select Must Not to create a restriction in which the activity becomes locked after a maximum amount of time has been spent.

  9. Identify the necessary amount of time in the Hours and Minutes boxes:

  10. If the Display in Block check box is selected, you will be able to display the remaining time threshold for this activity in the Course Time Tracker block (if you choose to do so in the block settings). If you do not select this check box, displaying the time threshold for this activity will not be an option for the Course Time Tracker block.

  11. Click either the Save and return to course button or the Save and display button. Once saved, the restriction will now appear underneath the activity title:
